Daily Creates Week 5: Multimedia

The Daily Create Your Theme Song was nostalgic for me. When I was in Little League, we played in a lovely stadium with a full sound system. We all had walk up sounds when we were up to bat. Here I am in position to bunt with my walk up song!

For Your Town’s What 3 Words Map Story the City of Vancouver produced the three words: ///awaited.amends.rips

After putting these words into Goggle Images, I came up with the following video compliation.

The awaited photo is merged with the “rips” of some unexpected lightning!

Finally, I made mine own.

My Grandfather’s Jim Beam Bourbon Train Car sits in our house. I added some satisfying sound effects:

I am really learning a lot about creating multimedia posts.

For the compilations above, I used Micrcosoft ClipChamp which, after investigation, I learned is included in the 365 suite.

For the baseball images I was able to take a photo and then add in an audio file on top of it, to produce the multimedia. For the city map, I was able to annotate an image.

Assignment 1 – Multimedia Story DRAFT

My plan is to take an adventure walk through the storied neighbourhood of Shaughnessy in Vancouver. Shaughnessy was the first large development of the Canadian Pacific Railway and was where their executives lived when they were relocated to Vancouver. The houses are stately manors, with amazing architecture and hints of past times that are revealed through architecture. I have mapped out an approximate route for my adventure, found below.

In order to detail my adventure, I will bring a cellphone to take photos and record sounds, and a notebook to jot down any interesting details. My story will be conveyed primarily through text. I will also have images and audio recordings of the adventure. I will visually document my route. I will also try to sketch unique and notable things that I see or meet.  I will endeavour to work in the various principles of Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML), as discussed through this class.

Weather will play a large role in my adventure. When I did one run-through it was a sunny day and I heard the ice cream truck… on a very rainy day it was a very different experience and I even saw some wildlife scurrying away to get away from me. In any event, it is guaranteed to be an adventure! Hope you come along…..

I’m James Kuzyk

Hi, I am James. I was born and raised in Vancouver. I have just completed my 3rd year of study in computer science at U Vic. One of my recent co-op terms was as an IT assistant in a mid-range company. I am taking this class as teaching could be a possible future for me.

My interests include snow skiing and water skiing. The top picture is at Christina Lake in the Kootenays – a wonderful spot in the southeast area of BC.

I am also a keen dodgeball player. After being a runner-up a few times, we were FINALLY crowned intramural champs this semester! I am on the far left.

Being a computer science major, I also love playing video games. Here I am in the Dojo at Nintendo Live. It’s a different kind of Dojo – but it was a lot of fun. It was the first and only time that they hosted it outside of Japan.
